“I’m truly myself when I’m just alone”

I was watching an interview with Olivia Rodrigo the other day. She said something that made me sit and think. She was talking about how she feels more like herself when she is alone. I physically had to pause this video to think about what she said. I agree with her, I am more myself when I am alone. I think it might be because when I am with others, my mind is constantly racing. Wondering what someone might say next or what I should say next. 

“Songwriting is kind of like a friend for you”

I don't write music because I don't know how to play any instruments. I wish I did, but I never got into it. However, I understand what she means. Writing is a friend to me. I write when I am sad, and I write when I am happy. I always had trouble with friends and trust in general, but it allowed me to grow a stronger relationship with the art of writing. Writing pen to paper is somewhat like having a conversation with someone. I feel as if everything I have to say has been shared with someone I can trust. I love that Olivia compares her writing to a friend because it demonstrates that this connection I have to the art can be shared with others who write. 

“Boredom is like… the catalyst for a bunch of creative things.” 

Okay, so there is one thing that Olivia and I would have to disagree on. I feel like I am always bored. She had voiced in this interview that she finds it difficult for her to become bored in today’s world that is filled with social media and various ways to distract yourself. Although, I stand with her in saying that being bored enables people to open their minds to exploring new artistic and original thinking. I always found myself to be bored when I was younger; I felt like I never had anything to do. When I finally got to middle school, I spent my free time writing and reading; I started writing little short stories and poems. Having so much free time helped me find my passion for writing and creating new ideas for short stories, poems, and other pieces of my own.

I am a Child of...

Hi! I am honestly not sure what to make my first blog post about... I know I love writing. So, here is a poem I wrote in AP Lang this year that shows just how much I love it! jealousy

Sometimes I get jealous of other people. Is that the right word?  Sometimes I envy those who have “more” than me,  are more “successful” than me.  Wait, what does “successful” even mean.  Even though I am 20 years old,  my jealousy for others is still there.  I wonder what it feels like to have a large group of friends,  a group of people that actually want you around.  Like… they want to invite you places.  What is it like to have so much praise on social media that you don’t have to turn the likes and comments off on posts?
