"mirrorball"
I love the song “mirrorball” by Taylor Swift. Maybe I do because I relate to the lyrics. I love how she metaphorically compares herself to something so beautiful yet so fragile.
When I think of a “mirrorball,” I envision a disco ball hanging high above everyone on a dance floor. To me it is something shiny with sparkles that lights up a room of people who hold their own dreams and stories.
If I am being honest, I am not sure how to approach this blog post, but I know I want to illustrate how this song connects to me.
I want you to know
I'm a mirrorball
I'll show you every version of yourself tonight
I'll get you out on the floor
Shimmering beautiful
And when I break it's in a million pieces
“I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight”
A mirrorball has numerous glass pieces around its shape that reflect the individual who is looking at it. When you look at your reflection, you see yourself and all the lies and truths that you believe reflect you. Metaphorically, I believe we are all mirror balls because when people view us, they see the impressions and life moments they were a part of during the time we were in their lives. I find this fascinating because I always wonder what people think about when they see me. These lyrics somewhat answered my question.
Hush
When no one is around, my dear
You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes
Spinning in my highest heels, love
Shining just for you
Hush
I know they said the end is near
But I'm still on my tallest tiptoes
Spinning in my highest heels, love
Shining just for you
“You’ll find me on my tallest tiptoes
Spinning in my highest heels, love
Shining just for you”
I love these lyrics because I view them as conveying how people have a desire to be seen as achieving what others believe they should. Put another way, I feel like they demonstrate how some people only want others to see them at their high points. (tallest tiptoes) Shining just for you
I want you to know
I'm a mirrorball
I can change everything about me to fit in
You are not like the regulars
The masquerade revelers
Drunk as they watch my shattered edges glisten
After doing some research and intensely analyzing these lyrics, I found that “masquerade revelers” are people who pretend to be someone they are not; however, they enjoy faking this false identity. Therefore, I feel that this section emphasizes how someone can change themselves so quickly after they feel broken after heartbreak or negative comments from others. I can change everything about me to fit in
Now my favorite part of the song :)
And they called off the circus
Burned the disco down
When they sent home the horses
And the rodeo clowns
I’m still on that tightrope
I’m still trying everything to get you laughing at me
I’m still a believer but I don’t know why
I’ve never been a natural
All I do is try, try, try
I’m still on that trapeze
I’m still trying everything
To keep you looking at me
I absolutely cherish this part. I cherish it because I feel like everyone who listens to it views it differently. This is beautiful.
“I’m still a believer but I don’t know why
I’ve never been a natural
All I do is try, try, try”
These lyrics are so powerful. To me, I feel like they display how difficult it is on the mind when one is hit with a mental block or obstacle. Well, maybe that does not make sense. I honestly do not know how to describe how these lyrics make me feel. It is sort of like the “perfectionist” against the world when something is challenging, and they have to deal with the struggle. Does that make sense? In my head, yes it makes sense. A circus is known to be a wild and entertaining scene. Here it has been “burned” and “sent home.” The writer is still “on that trapeze” craving attention from someone else. All I do is try, try, try
Because I'm a mirrorball
I'm a mirrorball
I'll show you every version of yourself
Tonight
Some people behave differently in front of different groups of people. I find this astonishing. I find this astonishing because if you think about it, people who change their personalities when they are with different people technically have different versions of themselves. People technically mirror others to fit in. Now that I think about it, you are able to see how others perceive you by watching how they pretend to fit in with you. I’ll show you ever version of yourself
Okay, well I have to finish this up because I do not want to write too much.

I believe that a person's interpretations about music and lyrics reveals a lot about their true self.
I wonder what everyone else’s interpretations are about this song. Hey Siri, play “mirrorball” by Taylor Swift.
Here is a reminder to take a deep breath. You matter. ♡
